The Bayside Barracudas Year 7/8 Boys delivered a dominant all-round performance in their first game together, claiming a convincing 32–0 victory over Xavier Catholic College in Round 5.

Despite giving away a few early penalties as the boys adjusted to match conditions, the Barracudas quickly settled into the game and began to assert control through strong defence and improved discipline. Once settled, the team demonstrated excellent structure and teamwork, with several well-executed plays leading to tries across the park.

The Barracudas’ attacking confidence continued to grow as the match progressed, with strong carries through the middle creating space out wide. Just as impressive was the team’s defensive effort, holding Xavier scoreless throughout the match. The commitment shown in defence, particularly near the try line, highlighted the resilience and unity within this newly formed side.

Keeping their opponents to nil underscored the Barracudas’ dominance and set a strong benchmark for the remainder of the season.

Standout Performers

Braxton Thompson led from the front with powerful carries and strong defence, crossing for two tries and converting three goals in an outstanding performance.

Tamati Kerr impressed with his strong hit-ups, consistently making metres with every touch and providing go-forward for the team.

Zaidyn Olivera had an excellent first game for the Barracudas, steering the team well at halfback and showing confidence and composure throughout.

“I’m really happy with our first game in the Broncos Challenge for these boys. They’ve been putting in a lot of effort at training, and that really showed in yesterday’s game. There are more great things to come for this team this year.”
