The Bayside Oval played host to an entertaining and high‑scoring encounter as the Bayside Barracudas Year 9/10 girls’ squads faced off in a Round 3 catch‑up match. With Barracudas White taking on Barracudas Blue, spectators were treated to an exciting contest filled with attacking flair, strong defence, and plenty of tries from both sides.

After a slightly slow start, both teams quickly found their rhythm and lifted the tempo. Once settled, the game opened up with impressive ball movement and well‑constructed attacking plays leading to a flurry of tries. Despite the scoreboard ticking over regularly, defence was not forgotten, with several outstanding low tackles and committed efforts preventing even more points being scored.

Barracudas White eventually gained the upper hand, finishing the match with a 40–28 victory. However, the result did little to separate the sides, as both teams demonstrated skill, determination and a growing understanding of structured play.

Standout Performers

Mikayla Otto produced an excellent all‑round performance, particularly in defence. Her highlight was a well‑taken try following a perfectly timed kick, capping off a strong game on both sides of the ball.
Hailee Saunders was outstanding throughout the match, crossing for an impressive four tries. Her attacking impact was matched by her defensive reliability, making her one of the most influential players on the field.
Precious Terare was a constant threat out wide, using her strong running game along the edges to break tackles and generate valuable metres for her team.

Coach’s Comments

“Both teams started the game a bit slow, but after a few minutes they kicked into gear. The attack with the ball was very good from both sides, with some great plays leading to tries. I was pleased with the defence overall, though at times we fell off a few tackles. It was an entertaining game and a good hit‑out with both teams now looking ahead to next week’s Karyn Murphy Cup in Bundaberg.”
