Match Summary

The first game of the 2026 Barracudas Dolphins Trip was against Sandgate High. Sandgate started strongly, scoring the first two tries within the opening 15 minutes. The Barracudas responded with solid completed sets and crossed for a couple of tries before halftime.

Trailing 16–12, the Barracudas lifted their intensity in the second half. Strong defence and excellent teamwork helped the boys fight back and secure a 24–16 victory.

The atmosphere at Sandgate High was outstanding, with plenty of students and teachers supporting the match and creating a great environment for an exciting, fast-flowing game of rugby league.

Standout Performers

Braxton Thompson

Had an outstanding game, guiding the team around the field with composure and strong rugby league skills. Scoring two tries, he consistently had the opposition on the back foot with his running game.

Caleb Olsen

Produced a strong defensive performance, not allowing any Sandgate players through his side of the field. Caleb also made several powerful runs, gaining valuable metres for his team.

Mitchell Rock

Had a great game at halfback and was instrumental in supporting Braxton and helping the team gain momentum. His passing game was a highlight, with quick and accurate service keeping the ball moving to the outside backs.

Coach’s Comments

“It was great to see the boys play against Sandgate High. I wanted to see where we were at playing against a Brisbane school and the boys played a great game. The highlight for me was seeing them all play for each other on the field. When players were rotating throughout the match, the positive chat between the boys was amazing to hear. There was a big crowd watching and during the half time debrief I said ‘we need to rise to this occasion’. The boys went back out and put on an impressive display of footy.”
