Match Summary

The Bayside Barracudas Year 7/8 Boys rose to the occasion with a strong and determined performance, overcoming Gympie High School 38-16 in an entertaining and hard-fought Broncos Challenge clash at Jack Stokes Oval.

After watching the Barracudas girls teams produce impressive performances earlier in the day, the boys were keen to make their own statement. In challenging conditions as temperatures continued to rise, they responded with a display of resilience, physicality and teamwork.

The contest was fiercely competitive from the outset, with both forward packs engaging in a tough battle through the middle of the field. Big hits and strong carries from both sides ensured there was never a comfortable moment, with Gympie continuing to challenge right until the final whistle.

Despite the pressure, the Barracudas maintained excellent structure in attack and played to their strengths throughout the game. Their organised approach, combined with strong execution of team plays, resulted in a mix of well-worked team tries and moments of individual brilliance. The boys controlled key periods of the match and showed composure when it mattered most to secure an impressive victory.

Standout Performers

Lukus Clemson made a significant impact after coming off the bench. His powerful running through the middle consistently gained valuable metres for the team, while his defensive effort matched his attacking contribution in a strong all-round performance.

Braxton Thompson delivered an outstanding display of leadership and creativity. Guiding the team around the field, he constantly kept the Gympie defence guessing with his decision-making and attacking flair, creating opportunities for his teammates throughout the match.

Kurtis Jones was a standout in defence, producing several strong tackles and helping force handling errors from the opposition. His powerful carries and willingness to take on the defensive line were rewarded with a well-earned try that capped off an excellent game.

Coach’s Comments

“The boys played to their strengths and built pressure through quality sets of six. Once we got to our kicks, we played some exceptional football off the back of that field position.”

“It was a complete team effort today. Our organisation in attack and defence was excellent, and it was great to see both wingers get on the scoresheet. Defensively, the boys worked hard for one another and limited Gympie to just three tries despite facing plenty of attacking pressure throughout the game.”

Looking Ahead

The Barracudas now prepare for their next challenge against Caboolture High School on 14 October 2026 at the Noosa Pirates Rugby League Football Club, Tewantin.

After a strong display built on discipline, teamwork and toughness, the Year 7/8 Boys will be eager to maintain their momentum and continue their successful Broncos Challenge campaign.
