The Bayside Barracudas Year 7/8 Girls delivered a dominant performance in their Karyn Murphy Cup final clash against Gympie High School, running away with a convincing 40-0 victory at Jack Stokes Oval.

Determined to set the tone early, the Barracudas came out full of energy and purpose. Their fast start paid immediate dividends, scoring in only the second set of the match to establish early momentum. From there, the girls showcased strong running, excellent ball movement, and impressive teamwork, producing a number of well-worked tries throughout the contest.

While the attack was outstanding, it was the Barracudas’ defensive effort that truly stood out. The team lifted their intensity across the field, shutting down every Gympie attacking opportunity and ensuring their opponents were kept scoreless for the entire game.

Standout Performers

Anika Webster was exceptional at fullback, consistently providing strong carry-backs and gaining valuable metres for her team. Her defensive positioning and one-on-one tackling were outstanding, with no opposition player able to break through her line of defence.

Tia Nash produced a powerful performance through the middle of the field. Her strong carries helped the Barracudas gain momentum, while her physical presence in defence was highlighted by several big tackles that put Gympie under pressure.

Lillianah Conlon was a constant threat with the ball in hand, crossing for two tries thanks to her powerful running game and strong support play. She also impressed defensively with a number of effective one-on-one tackles.

Coach’s Comments

“I was really happy with the effort the girls showed today. We spoke about starting quickly and moving the ball well, and they delivered exactly that. The team played together, our set plays worked effectively, and our defence was outstanding to keep Gympie scoreless.”

“Our forwards were strong through the middle, creating opportunities for our edge players to get plenty of football. This group has been working hard at training every week, and it’s fantastic to see that effort being rewarded on the field.”

Looking Ahead

The Barracudas will now turn their attention to their next challenge against Australia Christian College, Caboolture on 14 October 2026 at the Noosa Pirates Rugby League Football Club, Tewantin.

With confidence high and momentum building, the girls will be looking to continue their outstanding form and take another step forward in what has been a terrific season.
