Match Summary

The Bayside Barracudas Year 9/10 Girls produced a dominant all-round performance in their Karyn Murphy Cup clash against St Patrick’s College Gympie, claiming an impressive 36-0 victory at Jack Stokes Oval.

Having never faced St Patrick’s College before, the Barracudas entered the match unsure of what to expect. Any uncertainty quickly disappeared as the girls made the perfect start, scoring in their opening set of six. After a series of strong carries laid the platform, Honey Tamai crossed for the opening try, giving the team an early confidence boost.

The Barracudas maintained their momentum throughout the first half, piling on five tries through slick ball movement, strong support play, and relentless attacking pressure. Rather than easing off after the break, the girls delivered a near-perfect second-half performance, continuing to control possession and field position while keeping their opponents under constant pressure.

Defensively, the Barracudas were equally impressive. Their line speed, commitment, and physicality shut down St Patrick’s attacking opportunities, with several strong tackles setting the tone for a complete team effort and a well-deserved shutout victory.

Standout Performers

Precious Terare produced another consistent performance on the edge, making valuable metres with every carry and contributing strongly in attack. Her efforts were rewarded with a well-earned try that came from an excellent team movement.

Camryn Moody was outstanding in the centres, showcasing both speed and skill. She scored a superb long-range try following a well-executed kick and added a second in the corner after beating defenders with some impressive footwork.

Ellah-Rose Burnett led the way defensively with a series of strong front-on tackles that stopped St Patrick’s from building momentum. She also capped off her performance by crossing for a deserved try.

Coach’s Comments

“Even though our warm-up wasn’t ideal, we spoke before the game about the importance of starting fast, and the girls delivered exactly that. I was really pleased with the way they moved the ball around against St Patrick’s and created opportunities across the field.”

“Our defence was probably one of the best defensive performances I’ve seen from this group. Every player contributed, worked hard for one another, and played their role. It was a fantastic team effort and a well-deserved result.”

Looking Ahead

The Barracudas now turn their attention to their next challenge against Redcliffe High School on 14 October 2026 at the Noosa Pirates Rugby League Football Club in Tewantin.

With their confidence growing and both attack and defence firing, the Year 9/10 Girls will be aiming to carry this momentum forward as they continue their Karyn Murphy Cup campaign.
