Result: Bayside Barracudas 60 def. Bundaberg High School 8
The Bayside Barracudas Year 9/10 Girls produced a commanding performance on Monday, running away with a convincing 60-8 victory over Bundaberg High School at Across the Waves Sports Complex.
With next week’s Karyn Murphy Cup Final looming, the match provided the perfect opportunity for the Barracudas to fine-tune their combinations and build confidence. From the opening whistle, Bayside displayed outstanding intensity in both attack and defence, setting the tone for a dominant team performance.
The Barracudas showcased some excellent attacking football, with strong running lines, crisp ball movement and well-executed set plays creating numerous scoring opportunities. Their forwards laid the foundation through powerful carries and valuable metres gained through the middle, allowing the outside backs plenty of quality ball and space to work with.
Defensively, Bayside were equally impressive. Strong contact, effective leg tackles and relentless line speed made life difficult for Bundaberg High School throughout the contest. The team’s commitment to working together in defence ensured the opposition had very few opportunities to build momentum.
Standout Performers
Ruby Lennon
Ruby was outstanding in defence, producing several dominant one-on-one tackles throughout the match. She also contributed strongly in attack with powerful runs on the edges, consistently putting her team on the front foot.
Precious Terare
Precious enjoyed an excellent game on the wing, crossing for three tries through some slick backline movements. Along with her attacking impact, she defended strongly against her opposing number and worked hard all game.
Hailee Saunders
Hailee continued her outstanding season with another dominant performance. Her powerful running game resulted in three tries, while her defensive presence was felt throughout the match. Bundaberg’s attack was frequently forced to account for her whenever they had possession.
Ella-Rose Burnett
Playing in the second row, Ella-Rose was exceptional. Her strong carries at the Bundaberg forwards generated valuable momentum, and her quick play-the-balls helped keep the attack flowing. She was also reliable and physical in defence.
Coach’s Comments
“I was really happy with the effort the girls showed today. We spoke about starting quickly, moving the ball well and staying solid as a unit. The girls executed that plan perfectly.”
“The Barracudas played as a team, with our set plays working well and creating some great opportunities for our outside backs. Sophie and Nevaeh controlled the game really well in the halves, while Tyarna provided excellent communication from the back and led the girls around the field. Our forwards worked hard through the middle and on the edges, laying the platform for the win.”
“We now look forward to our next challenge against St Patrick’s College Gympie in the Wide Bay Karyn Murphy Cup Final.”
